Gravel

Gravel consists of small, loose rock fragments that vary in size from about 2mm to 75mm in diameter. It is naturally formed through weathering and erosion processes or crushed from larger rocks in quarries.

Types of Gravel:

  • Natural Gravel: Found in riverbeds, streams, and beaches.
  • Crushed Stone Gravel: Produced by breaking down large rocks.
  • Pea Gravel: Small, rounded stones often used for landscaping.
  • Bank Gravel: A mix of gravel, sand, and clay commonly used in road construction.

Sand

Sand is a finer material composed of tiny particles of rock and mineral, typically between 0.075mm and 2mm in size. It is commonly formed by the breakdown of rocks over long periods due to weathering and erosion.

Types of Sand:

  • River Sand: Fine-grained and commonly used for construction.
  • Masonry Sand: Washed and screened for use in mortar.
  • Concrete Sand: Coarser than masonry sand, used in concrete mixtures.
  • Manufactured Sand (M-Sand): Crushed rock used as a substitute for natural sand.
